So Stephen and I went on a VERY much needed get away, just the two of us at the beginning of this month! We decided to go on a cruise (Stephen had never been on one and I LOVE cruising-the ultimate in relaxation). I booked it for us this past summer and we started our countdown, I even downloaded an APP on my iphone to help remind me everyday how much longer :) After Liam was born, that countdown became even more helpful and it seemed to slow down, we wanted it to be here sooooooo bad!!! The moment finally arrived and we were sooooo excited. My mom was the most amazing sport and watched the kids for us at our house while we went off cruising for 5 days!! We knew they were in wonderful hands and it helped make it easier for us to go. We headed to Galveston on the 7th and boarded the boat. Stephen was very skeptical about the whole cruising idea but once we got on the boat and he saw all the service that they give you, all the food, the lack of kids, the best company he could have (me of course ;) and being out on the ocean for 5 days-he was super excited!!
We had SO much fun and it was really nice just being with one another. We were able to complete a conversation with one another without being interrupted, we slept through the night without any interruptions, we could eat a meal in piece, we got ready at our own pace (instead of against the clock of 2 children needing to be at school by a particular time every morning), we got to do what WE wanted to excursion wise-instead of what the kids would like and so much more! It was definitely a good time had by all and reminded me why I married him 4 years ago and had 2 kids with him (Yes, that is another reason why we needed the cruise just us 2....2 kids in less then 3 years).
So while on vacation, we did lots of things-some things we had done/tried before and TONS of new things.
Here is what we did:
While on the boat we-watched a hairy chest contest (the contests they have on ships are absolutely hilarious and completely random and its amazing what people will do), saw the shows, entered EVERY raffle we could, played lots of bingo, ate lots of amazing food, met some great people, laid out, read books and just enjoyed one anothers company.
While in Progreso, Mexico we- learned how to make authentic salsas (3 different kinds), learned how to salsa dance-which is soooo much fun and Stephen is really good! I had a little too much to drink-ha, I got Kinleigh and I matching authentic mexican dresses (pictures to come), I also got some really pretty kitchen ware with a very authentic hispanic look and feel!!
While in Cozumel, Mexico we-went on an excursion that took us on a ride around the entire island in jeep wranglers (so much fun and relaxing), we stopped at a tequila distillery, stopped at a beach on the non-tourist side of the island to enjoy some beach time and swimming (which stephen partook in and ended up loosing his wedding ring, his second and last one....apparently that side of the island has a VERY strong undertow and he almost got into more trouble. He lost his ring when he grabbed a rock and the water pulled him out, oh well, its just a ring and I know he still loves me...there are worse things in life and Im just glad the undertow didn't get the better of him), we also had the most AMAZING meal on this side of the island! I just love traditional mexican food-so fresh and yummy!!
Foods we tried while on the ship: escargot (yummy), veal, caviar, lobster, some new cheeses, habanero peppers (very spicy, btw), lentil soup and many more that I cant remember! There wasn't really anything that we didn't like, in fact it was the opposite, we loved most everything!
All in all, we had a wonderful time and Im so glad we go to spend 5 days just the two of us, I would HIGHLY recommend this to any and all parents. We all need a break to rejuvenate and continue doing what we do for our children and ourselves each and every day!!
